  • WOW!!!

My wife just showed me your article. I worked at the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Headquarters at the White Flint Complex, and for several years travelled down Rockville Pike every week dreading the rush-hour traffic even though the travel from our Bethesda home to office took only 10 minutes; 15 minutes on a bad day. Somewhere along the way I had forgotten that it was not always like that. Your article and the accompanying photo reminded me that we have paid a dear price in the name of progress and development. From now on I surely will feel very differently whenever I will travel down Rockville Pike. I will remind myself of this photo, imagine a picturesque road ahead rather than the steel-concrete-and-asphalt jungle around me, and most importantly, will not complain anymore.

Thanks for sharing the information and giving me a totally different perspective!

Very informative!!! I, especially, enjoyed the 1924 photo of the Pike- taken less than 90 years ago. I have two photographs of Wisconsin Ave NW, DC (the same road only further south) taken about the same time - near today's Tenley Circle. Amazing how the world around us has changed so much in less than a Century!
