“The music is very accessible,” says Christianson. “It’s a pop concert. As compared to a normal concert, it’s a little more dramatic,” adds Christianson. “I like to use events that are very theatrical, that the audience can get involved with.”
Creating this concert required a lot of work and dedication, with preparation starting years in advance.
“We recorded the whole album in New York separately and then submitted it to the BSO,” says Christianson. “It took two years; between writing, arranging it, recording the CD, and correcting score; just past the two year mark.” In addition, Christianson spent time working individually and collaboratively with lyricist and story adapter Alisa Hauser and seasoned New York and International conductor Amy Duran. Christianson, amongst others, is truly humbled to have this experience.
“I’m lucky enough to have two pieces performed by [the BSO],” says Christianson. “I appreciate them taking the chance on this piece.”
The show stars the BSO, the Baltimore City College Choir, several soloists, a narrator, and, of course, Scrooge himself. With this combination of good talent, sincere dedication, and out-of-the-box creativity, this performance will surely not disappoint.
“What the audience can expect is a totally different take on A Christmas Carol. It’s a family concert,” says Christianson. “Hopefully they will be swept along with Scrooge’s journey.”
A Christmas Carol – The Concert debuts December 16th and 17th at the Joseph Meyerhoff Concert Hall in Baltimore. Tickets range from $16-$57. For more information, visit www.bsomusic.org.
