A few months later, the cookbook found its way to my home and I went looking for ways to cook the endless supply of vegetables I was getting from the Seed of Life CSA that I joined with Articles Editor Holly Smith. I flipped the book open to the table of contents and was delighted that it was organized by season and listed the featured fruits and veggies in each chapter.
That week, in the CSA, we had gotten green beans. I’m not a fan of green beans. Ick. But I was determined to make something with those beans because I didn’t want them to go to waste. So, I tried the “Green Beans with Summer Savory recipe” from Dishing Up Maryland and, let me tell you, it’s worth the 45 minute cook time.
Fab-U-lous!
Excited about my new cookbook, I decided to try another recipe, this time tackling the stack of zucchini overflowing from my refrigerator to make “Zucchini Fritters with Thyme.” This time (no pun intended) was not so successful. However, it had more to do with my amateur cooking skills than the recipe itself.
What I love most about this cookbook is how perfectly it celebrates Maryland. The recipes not only span the seasons but they span the state as well and feature many local restaurants, wineries and farms. You really get a flavor for the Free State with this book.
If you already have a copy (if not, you should), what recipes have you tried? I’d love to hear how they turned out. I'm thinking about trying "Savory Summer Ratatouille" next.
