Beginning today, June 20, you’re invited to stroll through historic downtown Frederick and watch artists work their magic – outside – on canvas during Easels in Frederick, a juried plein air event hosted by The Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center.

The event features “thirty high-quality artists from nine states and DC who must work quickly to capture a live scene,” says Easels in Frederick co-chair Carolyn Greiner.

The artists will be painting June 20-22 but the event runs through June 24 with a variety of ways to enjoy the artwork:

Thursday Evening of Art and Wine, June 21st, 4 -10 p.m. See the art car, a mobile tribute to the Frederick arts scene (and working taxi), and enjoy a celebratory drink while shopping downtown.

Quick Draw Competition, June 23rd, 10 a.m.-noon, Citizens Truck Company, 15 South Court Street. Watch as artists race against the clock—and each other—for prizes.

Collectors Champagne Preview, June 23rd, 7-10 p.m., The Delaplaine Arts Center, 40 South Carroll Street. View and purchase the paintings completed during the week and see the prizes awarded.  A ticketed event but the full ticket cost can be used towards the purchase of one painting.

Judge’s Talk, Public Exhibit and Sale of Juried Work, June 24th, 1-5 p.m., The Delaplaine.  See and purchase art produced throughout Frederick during the event.

Join in on the fun and festivities, and watch some art in progress. For more information about Easels in Frederick, call 301-698-0656, follow the event on Twitter, or visit www.easelsinfrederick.org.
