When the starter’s gun fires at the Run 4 Shelter Half-Marathon, it won’t simply mark the beginning of a race. It will also symbolize more food, clothing, and assistance for the men, women, and children who rely on the generosity of Our Haven’s Shelter, Queen Anne’s County only cold-weather shelter and the race’s beneficiary.
Run 4 Shelter will be held Saturday, September 8, 2012, and will feature a half-marathon, 10K, 5K, and fun-run race for kids. The course will crisscross Kent Island’s wooded trails and run alongside the breathtaking scenery of the Chesapeake Bay.
And while the races’ ultimate goal is to give back to the Queen Anne’s community, runners will also receive, by way of prizes. The top-place finisher from the half marathon will win a trip to Belize, and the top-place finishers from the 5K and 10K will win getaways to Ocean City. There are also first, second, and third place medals for half-marathon winners, age group awards, and custom finisher medals, goodie bags, and race t-shirts for all participants.
All events are open to both runners and walkers. The half marathon starts at 7:30 a.m., the 5K and 10K at 8 a.m., and the kids’ fun-run at 10 a.m.
