At the end of last month, my family and I went tubing down the Gunpowder River. We rented tubes from Monkton Bikes and took the shuttle upriver to Blue Mount Road, ending at the Monkton Bridge. We stopped along the way for a picnic lunch along the NCR Trail and enjoyed watching a family of ducks doing the same. Weather conditions were perfect for a leisurely two and a half hour ride. Upon returning our tubes, we stopped into Diddywops and Keeffers, a fine art gallery. Owner Tammy Satterfield was holding a big sale prior to closing. We then walked back over to the Monkon Village Food Market and Café where my husband and I enjoyed coffee drinks and vegan specialties and the kids enjoyed snoballs (though they had to choose among more than 50 flavors!). We then explored the old trolley station and Gunpowder Falls Visitor Center. At the end of the day, my seven-year-old daughter remarked that we didn’t have to drive too far to feel like we had taken a vacation!
