I still remember the day I received my first magazine in the mail: it was 1997 and there was a giant T-Rex gracing the front cover of Disney Adventures to celebrate the release of The Lost World: Jurassic Park.

Thirteen years later, I’m interning at Maryland Life magazine while on summer break from studying journalism at American University. And I still have that copy of Disney Adventure – I’ve collected hundreds of magazines over the years. It goes without saying that I aspire to be an editor and a writer, preferably for a magazine, and where better to start learning than at Maryland Life?!

I’ve learned a lot during my summer at their downtown Frederick office. I had the opportunity to write several short articles; I helped launch the new website (which you are currently viewing!); and I proofed pages of the magazine before it went to print. The magazine industry is ever evolving, so it was great to be involved in both the digital and print aspects of Maryland Life.

But, hands down, the highlight of my time here was getting to see my name published in an actual magazine. How cool is that?!
